Marriott Ranch, Oasis vineyard, Grey Ghost, Blue Moon CafRelax and enjoy the simple elegance of old-world living at this gracious Victorian farmhouse among the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in pastoral Rappahannock County, Virginia. Upon his return from Civil War service, Colonel William Smith established a successful sheep farm and woolen mill at Laurel Mills and renovated the house in the classic Victorian style of the 1880's. This unique four-story home still commands the top of a knoll overlooking the Old Rappahannock Woolen Mill on the Thornton River.
The home's grand living space includes a sixty-foot entrance hall, spacious dining room with pocket doors, and magnificent drawing room with floor-to-ceiling Jeffersonian windows. The original hand-milled woodwork, heartpine floors, and Victorian mantels continue to bring charm and warmth to the house. Laurel Mills Farm is furnished throughout with period antiques, original art, and contemporary comforts, and accented with elegant fabrics.

From the six porches that surround the house, enjoy spectacular views of rolling pastures and mountains. Explore the 40-acre grounds and you might spot deer grazing in the fields or a beaver at work on a new dam. The sparkling Thornton River, which borders the Laurel Mills Farm, offers fishing, canoeing, tranquil picnic settings, and a place to relax after a day of hiking, bicycling, antique hunting, or fruit picking at a local orchard.

During warm months, watch a polo match at a neighboring farm. For horse enthusiasts, Rappahannock County also offers point-to-point, steeplechases, and fox hunting. With a short drive along picturesque country roads you can dine at nationally celebrated restaurants, sample local wines, match wits with native trout, tour Luray Caverns, or explore the many offerings of the Shenandoah National Park.
